It’s all about finding a vision and staying true to it. In the creative field of jewelry, Mark and Monika
Clodius have followed that guiding principle since opening Clodius & Co. Jewelers in Rockford,
Ill., in 2000.
Clodius & Co. Jewelers is a custom jewelry retailer providing a full range of products and services
– from high-end, custom pieces to more affordable options. Recently, the duo had extra reason to
celebrate, as Clodius & Co. was named one of “America’s Best Jewelers” by National Jeweler
magazine. The award was given to only 27 jewelers out of 23,000 in the country and recognized
the store’s high ranking in customer satisfaction, financial practices, market penetration and sales
strategies.
The “America’s Best Jeweler” award comes after Clodius & Co. was honored as “America’s
Coolest Jewelry Store” in 2003 – making it the only store in the country to have won both awards.
Mark and Monika opened the doors to Clodius & Co. in 2000 and expanded their location in 2007.
Some keys to their success include a friendly atmosphere and quality products.
“We’re professional but not formal, stuffy or expensive,” says Mark. “And that’s something that
works in Rockford.”
A similar atmosphere at Riverside Community Banks is one of the things that keep Mark and
Monika banking there. “Riverside Community Bank has been our bank since the beginning,” Mark
says. “In particular and fundamental to our growth was how closely they worked with the Small
Business Administration and the Rockford Local Development Corporation for our expansion.”
Just as building a rapport with customers is important in their retail operation, Mark and Monika
believe the same holds true with their business relationships. “Just like in our business, people
come in and feel comfortable,” Monika says. “I feel comfortable going in to Riverside Community
Bank to see my banker. It makes me feel good to be part of that.”
